This Competition is designed specifically for GIFTED students who are ADVANCED FOR THEIR AGE. The repertoire list consists of pieces in four contrasting styles to demonstrate superior musicianship. It will consist of two rounds of auditions, each containing different repertoire. (NO TIME CHANGES WILL BE ALLOWED.)
GENERAL INFORMATION:
This Competition will consist of either two live rounds of auditions or an option to submit a YouTube* recording (no other format will be accepted) for the Preliminary Round. If a contestant prefers to audition live, it is also possible to compete in one day for both rounds**.
** A contestant can choose to compete in both rounds in one day (choosing either the date of the Preliminary Round or the Final Round). If you choose this option, please indicate this on our competition application (next to your division choice). A fee for both rounds must be submitted at the time of the application, along with the postage fee. The results will only be announced after the Final Round is completed. Please indicated this on the application form in the designated field.
* A contestant can compete in the Preliminary Round by a YouTube Video if there is a time conflict or travel time and distance concern. No other format of recording will be accepted.

Application Fees must be paid by a separate check, and should not include any MEMBERSHIP FEES. If paying application fees for several students, please indicate their names (this can be done on a separate note). Checks that include Membership fees will not be processed and will be returned.
REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS:
A program of FOUR CONTRASTING pieces. These works must be original compositions and should be memorized. Pieces from method books will not be accepted. (No repertoire changes are permitted without consulting the Artistic Director or division chair).
PRELIMINARY ROUND:
If auditioning live: Please play one Baroque piece and one Fast movement of a classical period sonata, sonatina, rondo or a complete set of variations.
If auditioning VIA YouTube: Please play one Baroque piece and one Fast movement of a classical period sonata, sonatina, rondo or a complete set of variations. If auditioning via YouTube, you could be asked to repeat these pieces during the final round. There will be no written comments on the recording, just Passing or Not Passing Score.
RECORDING REQUIREMENTS: The video must have clear sound quality and be free of any extraneous sounds, ie. Metronome, snapping, clapping, clicking, tapping, singing, and any other background noises. Recordings containing above-mentioned sounds will be immediately disqualified.
The email with the YouTube video link must be accompanied by the following:
- Performer's name, age and membership number (if applicable)
- Teacher's name and membership number
- Division name and code number
- Composition name, Opus numbers, key, etc.
- Composer's name
- Performance time
FINAL ROUND FOR ALL APPLICANTS:
Please play one comparable piece of a substantial size in any other style and one Miniature piece, which is either one page in length or 1 to 1 1/2 minutes long (no exceptions). Please note that your performance might be cut if it exceeds the time limit, which is specified below in the suggested syllabus.
No time changes will be allowed in the schedule for ANY reason. If the student has decided to audition live, he/she MUST be available for the entire weekend.
PERFORMANCE TIME AND AWARDS:
Winners will be determined by a combined score from the PRELIMINARY AND FINAL ROUNDS
Gold Winners will receive cash awards. All prizewinners will receive certificates and will be invited to perform at the Festival Recital held at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.
Please note: When planning your program, the Recital Piece cannot exceed 10 minutes.
If a contestant is a winner, and he/she chooses not to perform at the Winners’ Recital, the recital fee is nonrefundable, and the contestant will not receive his/hers award or certificate.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL MEMBERS: TEACHERS AND INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS
The applicant must list all four pieces, even though for the preliminary round, the competitors are only required to perform two pieces {Baroque and Classical work}. Incomplete applications cannot be processed, and a late fee will have to be paid.
An email with instructions will be sent before each round to either a teacher member or individual member. These instructions must be read and followed VERY carefully. This information pertains to the repertoire requirements, copies of the scores, and fees. Those who fail to comply with our instructions will be disqualified.
