This Competition will have a Gold, Silver and Bronze Winners. The Gold Prizewinner may be eligible for a performance with the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra.  The Judges reserve the right not to award any Prizes.

 

Concerto I [C I]
9 years of age and under
Any movement.
Concerto II [C II]
10 - 13 years of age.
Any fast movement.
Concerto III [C III]
14 - 18 years of age.
Any fast movement.

 

The Preliminary Round: Contestants must submit a video recording of their concerto movement in electronic format either via YouTube, Dropbox or Google Drive, accompanied by a completed Downloadable Preliminary Round Adjudication Sheet (which could be found on our website under Adjudication forms).  These can be sent to ypcnjoffice@gmail.com.  The electronic entry must be accompanied by a copy of the working score of the piece, which could either be mailed with the Competition Application and the Application Fee or submitted electronically in PDF format.  Recordings that are not properly accompanied with the contestant's name, age, composer, and the name of their concerto (no., key, op. etc.) will not be adjudicated.

Requirements:In the Preliminary round, the judges will listen to an unaccompanied solo part with the cadenza, if there is one.

Judges from the Preliminary Round will make their selections of contestants for the Semi Final Round and for the Recital Final Round.

Semi Final Round: Contestants will perform their concerto with an accompanist in a live round in front of judges and audience.  Teachers may accompany their students during the Semi Final Round.  Contestants must bring original score and 2 extra copies for the judges.

Judges from the Semi Final Round will make their selections of contestants for the Recital Final Round.

Recital Final Round: Contestants will perform their concerto with an accompanist in front of judges and audience in a formal recital setting.  Teachers may accompany their students during the Recital Final Round.  Contestants must bring an original score and one copy for the judges. During this round, the Judges will use a numerical ranking system. There will be no written comments during this round.

Judges will make their selections of the winners, and the results will be announced immediately following the Recital Final Round.  The Judges from the Final Recital Round will nominate candidate(s) for performance with the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra during the following season.  The final decision depends on the Orchestra Programming and the Orchestra’s Music Director.

Those students who have been chosen to participate at the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra's Concert Series must immediately submit a publicity photograph (not a school photograph, but a photograph at the piano with a black or a dark background) as well as the artist's biography.  This is mandatory and must be done in a timely fashion so that proper publicity can be done for the concert.  Performance fee must be paid 2 months prior to concert.

RECORDING Labeling Information

This information must be included in the E-mail which will accompany the link to your recording

 

Each recording submitted to the competition must be labeled as follows:

 

  1. Performer's name, age and membership number (if applicable)
  2. Teacher's name and membership number
  3. Division name and code number
  4. Composition name, Opus numbers, key, etc.
  5. Composer's name
  6. Performance time

 

Improperly labeled recordings will not be accepted.
