Mission Statement

The Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey is an organization created for the purpose of encouraging young talented musicians to grow artistically, to perfect their musical abilities, and to provide as many performing opportunities as possible.  It is an organization of music educators and professional music teachers who have a common goal:  to promote the love and understanding of the entire piano repertoire throughout the community.  Since its creation in 1989, the Competition has grown throughout the state of New Jersey by introducing new projects, programs and competitions involving schools, colleges, libraries, students, parents, teachers and many community members.  In 1998, the Board of Directors decided to open the competition to the Tri-State Area and Pennsylvania.

An organization administered by a Board of Directors, the Young Pianist Competition consists of professional musicians, administrators and Competition alumni.  The Competition s membership includes a large number of professional piano teachers who have their respective private practices throughout the Tri-State Area and Pennsylvania.

Every season the Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey holds six different competitions:  Solo, Young Artist, Cyclical Work, Ensemble, Concerto and Chamber Music.  Each competition is uniquely designed to suit young talented individuals in their area of specialization.  Winners of the annual competitions perform in the Winners Recital at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and at Steinway Hall in New York City

In addition to performing in great halls, our winners have also toured their local communities performing for the Bridgewater Jewish Community Center and numerous Assisted Living Facilities in the Central New Jersey area.  They bring the beauty of classical music and a youthful exuberance to an audience whom otherwise would not have access to live musical performances.  Equally important are the live concerts given by notable professional pianists that expose young children as well as adults to the classics.  Many of the audience we attract would otherwise not attend live concerts due to both financial and logistic difficulties.  In this sense we are providing a much needed community service.

In its ongoing effort to promote young talent, the Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey realized the importance of public performance and the challenge in obtaining this experience.  Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey sets goals to continuously provide performing opportunities. In addition, all informal Workshop Recitals are held at Raritan Valley Community College as training and preparation for competitions and are another viable performance occasion.

The Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey addresses the needs of young pianists and upholds its mission to advance and nurture gifted, talented pianists of the future.

Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
